Backed by more than a century's experience in hydro power generators, Alstom has the right generators for any hydro power application

Because hydro power is dependent on individual dam site conditions, hydro electrical energy conversion machinery requirements differ from plant to plant. That's why our hydro generators are tailor made for each project.

All our products incorporate unique Alstom design features - such as oblique elements for mechanical design, insulation systems and bearings. They are recognized in the industry for their high levels of performance, quality and reliability.

For smaller applications, we've developed a series of standard generators. These include many of the same design features as our generators for larger applications.

To ensure our equipment's optimum performance, we use proven, standardized Alstom designs and tools. These are subject to continuous improvement at our dedicated generator technology centre in Birr, Switzerland.

This center brings together specialists from different countries and areas of generator design. Particular fields of interest are electricity, advanced mechanical design, cooling and ventilation, IT tools, insulation technology and new materials. Recent achievements include the full scale measurement of the 6000 tons thrust bearings for the Three Gorges Project, as well as developments in adjustable speed power generation.
